My topic is on the cultural heritage of Hong Kong. I chose this topic because as a resident of Hong Kong, I have many different views about the culture in Hong Kong. These involve the lingering effects from the British colonization and the transition that is still currently occurring as Hong Kong is returned to mainland China. I hope to change the representation that Hong Kong’s cultural heritage is evolving rather than dying. Many of the older generations perceive the change in Hong Kong’s culture as a loss in traditional Hong Kong cultural heritage. I argue that this is not a loss in cultural heritage rather it is a change being done to Hong Kong’s culture as the different cultures existent in Hong Kong influence one another to create a unique culture for Hong Kong. In terms of the design, I think this will be image oriented in order to show the changes in cultural representation. A timeline may be appropriate in showing the differences in symbols of cultural representation and heritage such as clothing. The purpose of my exhibit will be to first educate my readers of what the current culture of Hong Kong is as well as persuade them that the change in culture in Hong Kong should not be perceived as a loss in cultural heritage.
