For Project 3, I have decided to develop a digital exhibit on social activism in America. I have chosen this topic because we live in a time dominate by social media and as a result, we don’t take the time to really value what people write. There are activists out there that have dedicated their lives to researching areas of society that unjustly target specific groups of people and work tirelessly to influence and inspire people to be better. The problem here is that the crowd paying attention has decreased significantly. Instead of focusing on musical artists, movie stars, and athletes, I’m going to take the time to analyze the works of the unknown names that truly impact the way we view civil rights in America today.
I plan on including literary pieces, movements, events, and anything that has impacted activism in our country and was organized by someone with a small platform but a big voice. Throughout this project, my hopes are to change the way we view these activists and understand that their platform is worth recognizing and that the work they are doing is so valuable to our society. I think that I will include both visual and text components while constructing this exhibit and I also intend to contribute some sort of timeline as well. The purpose will be to educate and inform groups of people, such as my fellow classmates, of the magnitude of these activists in a fairly serious and academic manner.
I am excited to get started on this exhibit and I really do believe that with modern technology, we can create something of high value that will also last forever.
