For my exhibition, I would like to talk about Russia, as it is the country where I grew up. More specifically, I would like to talk about the representation of Russia in the rest of the world by the media (especially American and European) and the perceptions and biases people have against it and compare it to what I actualy know it to be like, as I have lived there and have almost 18 years of first hand experience about what goes on there. Examples I might include are political, social, economic, and technological. I think these are the big ones as people generally have the perception that Russia is not really democratic. Additionally, another common perception is that it is not too developed. In my exhibit, I might include satirical cartoons, statistics, blurbs of factual text, and technological innovations. I would like to show that Russia is very different from what people might think of it, and present it in a better light. Additionally, I would llike to show that it is not too different from Western countries, as opposed to what people might think.I think that this exhibit would be more image oriented, but still with a decent amount of text. The purpose of my exhibit would be to educate, so my tone will mostly be academic but there could be a little humorous aspect to it. In case of questions, I am not entirely sure about what is expected as the quality of the exhibit and how detailed it needs to be.
